AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team will continue its 2013 season this weekend with a pair of contests. The Tornados will host Houston-Victoria at 3 p.m. on Thursday at St. Stephen's Episcopal School before hitting the road to take on American Southwest Conference foe East Texas Baptist at 4 p.m. two days later in a non-league match.
Concordia Texas (0-3-1) snapped its three-match losing streak by playing Huston-Tillotson to a scoreless draw on Monday night. The Tornados have yet to score this season, but had several chances in their last outing that were thwarted by Rams goalkeeper Marcos Sanchez.
The Jaguars (5-2) bring a four-match winning streak into Thursday's match. Houston-Victoria has outscored its opponents 13-3 during that span, including a 4-0 victory against Schreiner last Saturday. Daniel Lozano leads the Jaguars with nine total points (3 goals/3 assists).
The Tigers (1-2) have dropped their last two contests, including a 6-1 setback at Millsaps last Friday. All four of East Texas Baptist's goals have been scored by different players, and all have been unassisted. The Tigers have been outshot 53-38 this fall.
Thursday's matchup is only the second betwen Concordia and Houston-Victoria. The Tornados posted a 1-0 victory in the only meeting on Sept. 3, 2010 in Victoria.
Meanwhile, Saturday's contest is the 12th in the all-time series between CTX and ETBU with the Tigers holding an 8-3 advantage. However, Concordia has won two of the last three matchups, including a 3-1 decision on Sept. 22, 2012 in the Capital City.
