AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half and the Tornados blew past Houston-Victoria, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at St. Stephen's Episcopal School.
The Jaguars (3-5) took a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute on Sheilat Akapo's ninth goal of the season.
However, Concordia Texas (2-2-2) netted four unanswered scores, including a pair by Nicole Henderson to clinch the non-conference victory.
Alex Price tied up the contest in the 57th minute with her third goal of the year. Henderson passed the ball forward and Chastity Carrillo flicked it into space which allowed Price to beat the goalkeeper.
Five minutes later, Henderson netted the game-winning goal and her first score of the campaign after putting away a cross from Meagan Brown.
Henderson gave the Tornados a 3-1 advantage in the 84th minute by heading home a corner kick from Carrillo.
Carrillo capped the scoring three minutes later with a score that deflected off a defender and into the goal.
Houston-Victoria outshot Concordia, 16-10, but the Tornados put seven shots on target, four of which found the back of the net.
Concordia will travel to I-35 rival Mary Hardin-Baylor (5-0) on Friday. The two teams will play a non-conference match that will kick off at 5 p.m. at Cru Soccer Field.
