AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team will open American Southwest Conference (ASC) action this weekend when it hosts Louisiana College and Mississippi College. The Tornados will square off with the Wildcats at 4 p.m. on Friday and will meet the Choctaws at 4 p.m. the following day.
Concordia Texas (0-4-1, 0-0-0 ASC) is still in search of its first win of the fall. The Tornados suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of Houston-Victoria last Thursday in Austin. Concordia also is looking to net its first goal of the campaign, while
Christian Fredrickson leads the squad with 12 shots attempted.
Louisiana College (3-5-0, 0-0-0 ASC) has dropped its last four matches and have been outscored 11-3 during the same span. The Wildcats' last outing was a 3-1 loss at Hendrix last Saturday. Rodrigo Neves and Caio Sousa lead the team with three goals apiece, while Fellipe Albuquerque has handed out a team-high three assists.
Mississippi College (3-3-0, 0-0-0 ASC) has picked up win in two of its last three contests, but was dealt a 1-0 loss to Wiley last Sunday. All six of the Choctaws' matches this season have been decided by one goal. Garrett Head and Harrison Russell have tallied two scores apiece to lead the club, while Brian Vasquez has dished out three assists.
Friday's match marks the 10th overall meeting between the Tornados and Louisiana College. Concordia holds a slim 5-4 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to the 2004 campaign. The Wildcats won the last matchup with a 1-0 decision on Oct. 18, 2012, in Pineville, La.
Meanwhile, Saturday's contest is the 11th meeting between the Tornados and Mississippi College. The Choctaws own a commanding 8-0-2 lead in the all-time series that began during the 2000 season. However, the last four matches have been decided by a goal or less (two ties and two MC victories). Mississippi College edged Concordia on Oct. 20, 2012, 2-1, in Clinton, Miss.
