AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's soccer will travel to the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex to play a pair of non-conference matches this weekend. The Tornados will take on Dallas at 2 p.m. on Saturday before squaring off with Texas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. the following day.
Concordia Texas (1-0) won its season opener against Texas Lutheran on Monday, 2-0.
Alex Price scored in each half and Megan Fronteira posted her first career shutout in her collegiate debut to lead the Tornados to their fifth consecutive win over the Bulldogs.
The Crusaders (0-2) are coming off a 4-2 loss at Bridgewater (Va.) last Sunday. Dallas fell behind 2-0 in the first half but were able to pull within one (3-2) at halftime. However, the Crusaders surrendered another goal in the 58th minute which sealed the contest.
Three different players have scored one goal apiece for Dallas, including Nicole Johnson who also has two of the squad's three assists. Brigid Hasson has faced 42 shots this season and posted 12 saves on the 18 that were on target.
The Lady Rams (3-0) have not allowed a goal this year, recording shutout wins over Howard Payne (4-0), LeTourneau (12-0) and Schreiner. Texas Wesleyan als will play Texas-Dallas on Friday evening in Richardson before prepping for CTX.
Nikki Lockwood has registered a pair of saves while netting three consecutive clean sheets to open the campaign. She has been backed up by an explosive offense, which is led by Lauren Kee's six goals. The Lady Rams, who compete at the NAIA level, average 31 shots per match and only have given up 31 shots combined by their first three opponenents.
Saturday's meeting with the Crusaders is the ninth in the all-time series, which began in 1999. Dallas holds a 6-1-1 advantage, but the last three meetings have been split (1-1-1). The Crusaders knocked off the Tornados last season, 2-0, and Concordia netted a 2-0 victory on Oct. 12, 2010. The two clubs split the Sept. 4, 2008 meeting in Irving.
The Tornados and Texas Wesleyan will be matching up for only the second time on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rams shut out Concordia, 8-0, in the first meeting between the two squads on Sept. 12, 2008.
