AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team saw its upset bid come up short as American Southwest Conference-leading Texas-Tyler was able to hang on for a 65-62 victory on Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Patriots (11-2, 9-1 ASC) fought off a late charge by the Tornados (6-7, 4-6 ASC), who led by as much as six in the opening panel.
Concordia Texas trailed 62-56 before
Ashlyn Ward connected on a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left. Following a made free throw by UT Tyler,
Tyler Compton converted a traditional three-point play after she was fouled on a layup to trim the visitors' lead to one. However, the Patriots picked up the final two points of the game after Danai Woods hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining.
Concordia's final try to extend the game ended with Makenzi May blocking a 3-point attempt by Ward as time expired.
She'Cara Humphrey and Teylor Seals each netted 11 points apiece to pace Texas-Tyler, while Brittany King posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Compton scored a game-high 25 points to lead CTX.
Kia Love chipped in with 13, while
Margaret Milling added 11.
HIGHLIGHTS
• After Texas-Tyler jumped out to a 10-2 lead, Concordia rallied to take a six-point lead late in the first half.
• The Tornados forced 23 turnovers and held the Patriots to .378 shooting from the field.

Tyler Compton has scored double figures in 12 of Concordia's 13 games this season. The Lafayette, La., native has netted 20 or more points in seven contests this year.

Shelby Dixon recorded three blocked shots on Saturday, her highest mark since joining the Tornados at the semester.
• The Tornados tied a season high after shooting 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from behind the three-point line.
