BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne reeled off a 20-6 run over the final nine minutes, and the Lady Jackets edged the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team 53-49 in American Southwest Conference (ASC) action on Saturday afternoon at Brownwood Coliseum.

Howard Payne (11-6, 10-4 ASC) held the Tornados (8-9, 6-8 ASC) for an eight-minute stretch during the game-deciding run.

Kia Love hit a layup to give Concordia Texas a 43-33 lead with 12:14 left in the contest. However, CTX would not get another bucket until Shelby Stidham connected on a layup at the 4:17 mark. The Tornados still had a four-point lead at that point, but the Lady Jackets hit four consecutive free throws to pull even.

After Tyler Compton found Domonique Liddell in the paint for a short jumper to give Concordia a 47-45 lead, Howard Payne hit back-to-back layups to take the advantage for good.

Compton's layup with 17 seconds to go cut the home team's lead to two, but Danyel Bradley and Britani Gattis iced the contest, as each hit a free throw in the final seconds.

Gattis posted a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, both game highs, to pace the Lady Jackets. Sarah Van Remmen also logged a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards.

Voneshia Williams led the Tornados with 10 points, while Margaret Milling collected a career-high 11 rebounds.

Concordia will return home to host Mississippi College on Thursday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse.
