East Texas Baptist rallies to edge Concordia Texas on Saturday, 63-61

MARSHALL, Texas –
Fueled by a 20-7 run to end the first half, East Texas Baptist rallied from an 11-point deficit to knock off the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team, 63-61, on Saturday afternoon at Ornelas Gymnasium.

The Tornados (5-5, 3-4 ASC) held a 22-11 advantage with 6:42 left in the first half. However, the Tigers (4-6, 2-5 ASC) ripped off their run that gave the hosts a 31-29 lead at halftime.

Concordia Texas took a one-point lead at three different points in the final frame, but was unable to hold the advantage.

With the score tied at 54-54, Jasmine Davis made a layup to give East Texas Baptist a lead it would not relinquish.

The Tornados trailed by two with eight seconds left, but missed two shots on their final attempt before time expired.

Celeste Laredo led all scorers with 22 points, while Domonique Liddell collected a team-high 10 rebounds.

Davis scored 17 points to pace the Tigers.

• Laredo was 5-for-11 from beyond the arc, one 3-pointer shy of her season high.
• Domonique Liddell blocked one shot in the contest, which marks the 10th consecutive game with at least one blocked shot for the junior center.

East Texas Baptist shot 66.7 percent (6-for-9) from the floor during its 20-7 run to close out the first half.

Concordia closes out its three-game road trip at rival Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
