AUSTIN, Texas – Katie Baker racked up 26 kills, including 10 in the first frame, and led the Concordia University Texas volleyball team to a four-set win over East Texas Baptist in an American Southwest Conference match on Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse. The Tornados won the contest by scores of 25-21, 14-25, 26-24 and 25-17.
Baker's 26 kills are a career high and the highest by any ASC player this season. It also set a program record for most kills in the 25-point rally scoring era (since 2008). The Corpus Christi native hit .423 in 52 swings with only four attack errors. She also added eight digs, an ace and an assist to earn a total of 27 points on the day.
Jordan Redmond went into double figures for the second straight match with 12 winners, while
Skye Truss registered her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Zoe Allen guided the Tornados (14-12, 9-7 ASC) to a .256 hitting percentage. The Springfield, Missouri, native dished out 49 assists and added 15 digs to log her ninth double-double of the campaign.
Cassie Dominguez collected a match-high 16 digs.
With the victory, Concordia Texas clinched the No. 5 seed in next week's ASC Tournament, which will be held in Belton. The Tornados will face fourth-seeded Texas-Tyler at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, in an opening round contest.
