Texas Lutheran holds off Concordia Texas on Tuesday, 65-57

AUSTIN, Texas – A late second-half surge helped Texas Lutheran defeat the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team, 65-57, on Tuesday at Concordia Fieldhouse.

The Tornados (0-2) took a 50-48 lead on Shelby Stidham's jumper with 7:06 to play. However, the Bulldogs (2-2) reeled off a 10-0 run to claim an eight-point advantage.

Concordia Texas cut it to 58-55 with 2:25 left, following a 3-pointer by Ashlyn Ward and a layup from Nadine Fadelle.

Texas Lutheran responded again, this time with a 7-2 spurt to close out the game.

Four Bulldogs scored double figures, led by Taylor Dydalewicz's game-high 23 points.

Ward paced the Tornados with 16 points, while Isis Johnson collected a double-double of 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Emily Cullers added 10 points.

Concordia shot 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the field, including 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from behind the three-point line.

Meanwhile, TLU shot 32.8 percent (21-of-64) from the floor. The Tornados held the Bulldogs to just 7.7 percent (1-for-13) from beyond the arc. Texas Lutheran also forced 27 turnovers.

Concordia will return to action on Monday, Dec. 1, against Trinity. Tip-off for the non-conference tilt is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse.

POSTGAME NOTES
• Isis Johnson's double-double is the first by a CTX player since Domonique Liddell (13 points/12 rebounds) accomplished the feat against LeTourneau on Feb. 8, 2013.
• The Tornados forced 21 turnovers and collected 12 steals.
• Ashlyn Ward's 16 points on Tuesday is a career high.
• Ward's four 3-pointers also equaled her career single-game mark, which she initially set on Feb. 22, 2014, against Hardin-Simmons.
• Ward scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half.
• Concordia led for 17:36, while the contest was tied for 9:32.
