AUSTIN, Texas – With only four regular season games remaining, the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team will hit the road for a pair of American Southwest Conference (ASC) contests. The Tornados will face No. 25 Texas-Tyler at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Ozarks at 1 p.m. two days later.
Concordia Texas (10-11, 8-10 ASC) has won two of its last three contests, including an 81-76 double-overtime victory over East Texas Baptist last Saturday. The Tornados average 67 points per outing and hold opponents to 64.3 points per game. CTX also boasts the league's top defensive unit, in terms of field goal percentage defense (.363).
Senior guard
Tyler Compton (17.1 ppg) is the lone Concordia player averaging double figures, while junior center
Domonique Liddell is the squad's top rebounder (6.7 rpg). Senior guard
Margaret Milling is chasing the program's all-time record for steals. The Fort Worth, Texas, native has amassed 312 steals in her career, six shy of the record set by former All-American Kassandra Bills (318/2005-09).
The Patriots (18-3, 16-2 ASC) entered the
D3hoops.com Top 25 on Monday for the frst time this season. Texas-Tyler has five consecutive contests, including a 91-53 drubbing of Sul Ross State last Saturday. The Patriots limit opponents to a league-low 60.7 points per contest, while Brittany King (16.6 ppg) and She'Cara Humphrey (15.4 ppg) rank sixth and seventh in the ASC in scoring.
Texas-Tyler posted a 65-62 victory over the Tornados in the last meeting between the two teams on Jan. 11. The league leaders held off a late charge by Concordia, and sealed the win with a pair of free throws and a blocked 3-pointer in the final seconds.
The Lady Eagles (8-13, 7-11 ASC) have won four of their last five games, including back-to-back victories over Sul Ross State and Howard Payne last week. Ozarks currently is tied for eighth in the league standings, but only one game behind the Tornados for sixth.
Concordia netted a 62-49 win over the Lady Eagles in the last meeting on Jan. 9, in Austin.
