Concordia Texas dealt 71-61 loss by No. 25 Texas-Tyler on Thursday

TYLER, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team was unable to upset No. 25 Texas-Tyler, as the Patriots earned a 71-61 victory on Wednesday at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.

Celeste Laredo was the lone double-digit scorer for the Tornados (10-12, 8-11 ASC), as the freshman tallied 13 points.

League-leading Texas-Tyler (19-3, 17-2 ASC) had a 61-55 advantage with 6:07 to play, but five consecutive free throws for the hosts pushed the lead to double digits.

Concordia Texas was able to trim the deficit to nine points twice in the final two minutes, but the Patriots answered with four of the final seven points to claim a 10-point win.

The Tornados shot 46.8 percent (22-of-47) from the field, but only 23.1 percent (3-for-13) from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, Texas-Tyler hit 42 percent (21-of-50) from the floor. She'Cara Humphrey led all scorers with 23 points, while Madison Wilson (13) and Brittany King (10) also reached double figures.

Concordia will play its final road game of the regular season on Saturday, as the Tornados travel to Ozarks. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Mabee Gymnasium in Clarksville, Ark.
