CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Ozarks used an 8-0 run to rally from a five-point deficit in the final minute, and the Lady Eagles topped the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team, 56-53, on Saturday afternoon at Mabee Gymnasium.
The Tornados (10-13, 8-12 ASC) took a 53-48 lead after
Tyler Compton drained a 3-pointer with 53 seconds remaining. However, that was the last time Concordia Texas was able to score.
Ozarks (9-14, 8-12 ASC) trimmed the advantage to three when Kindra Davis connected on a layup with 44 seconds to play. After three consecutive fouls by the Lady Eagles and a missed free throw by the Tornados, Bryanna Moltz hit a 3-pointer to tie the game with only nine seconds left.
Concordia came up empty on the ensuing possession when Compton missed a jumper. Moltz secured the rebound and found Ashley Hipps, who hit a layup and was fouled with three seconds to go. Hipps also knocked down the free throw and gave the hosts a three-point lead.
The Tornados' last effort was a 3-pointer from
Ashlyn Ward that was off the mark as time expired.
Jordana Andrews scored 12 points to lead all players, while Davis collected a game-high 15 rebounds for Ozarks.
Compton paced Concordia with nine points off the bench.
The Tornados will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 20, as they host Texas-Dallas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse.
