Baseball to host Ozarks in American Southwest Conference series this weekend

AUSTIN, Texas – Following an eight-day layoff, the Concordia University Texas baseball team will open American Southwest Conference (ASC) play with a three-game series against Ozarks this weekend. The set opens at 7 p.m. Friday and concludes with a 1 p.m. doubleheader the following day.

The Tornados (3-1, 0-0 ASC) dropped their last outing, an 11-3 decision to Texas Lutheran on Feb. 12 at Tornado Field. Concordia Texas opened the season with a three-game sweep of Southwestern (Feb. 8-9).

The Tornados enter the weekend series with a .293 batting average. Connor Bertsch leads the way with a .455 batting average (5-for-11), while Colton Poindexter is hitting .429 (6-for-14) with a double.

Concordia's pitching staff owns a 5.03 ERA and ranks second in the ASC with 32 strikeouts. Cameron Cox is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and a team-high nine strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Right-handers Corey Holmes (1-0) and Ty Bratton (1-0) picked up the other two victories in relief in the season-opening series.

The Eagles (2-2, 0-0 ASC) dropped a 14-11 decision versus Hendrix on Tuesday. Ozarks started the season by claiming two of three games against Augsburg. The Eagles are hitting .250 as a team, while the pitching staff was been saddled with a 9.26 ERA. Tony Morales leads the club with a .467 batting average (7-for-15) with two doubles, a homer and seven RBIs.
