AUSTIN, Texas – Right-handers
Scott Weinschenk and
Aaron Dunahoe combined on a three-hit shutout, and the Concordia University Texas baseball team picked up a 9-0 victory over Ozarks in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) opener on Friday night at Tornado Field.
Weinschenk (1-0) worked seven innings to earn the win, allowing only two hits and fanning nine. Dunahoe gave up just one hit and struck out one in two frames of relief.
Cole Calder led the offensive charge with a 2-for-4 performance that included two RBIs.
Brandon Hollier went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and drove in a run, while
Colton Poindexter drove in two and stole a base.
The Tornados (4-1, 1-0 ASC) broke the scoring seal in the second inning after Hollier drove in
Connor Bertsch, who drilled a two-out double down the right-field line.
Concordia Texas never looked back.
The Tornados scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, and picked up one tally apiece in the seventh and eighth frames to finish off the Eagles (2-3, 0-1 ASC).
Jeffrey Works (0-2) was handed the loss, as the right-hander gave up four runs on four hits in 3.2 panels.
The series concludes with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
