AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas baseball team swept a twinbill from visiting Ozarks on Saturday at Tornado Field. The Tornados won the opener 9-3 and earned an 11-1 victory in eight innings in the nightcap.
Connor Bertsch fueled Concordia Texas' offense, which hammered out 29 hits combined on the day. Bertsch was 6-for-6 with three doubles, a homer and three RBIs.
Garrett Benyo added four hits, including a dinger, and five RBIs.
Concordia (6-1, 3-0 ASC) was as impressive on the mound.
The Tornados' pitching staff gave up only one earned run on the day. In the three-game set, CTX posted a 0.38 ERA and limited the Eagles (2-5, 0-3 ASC) to a .155 batting average.
Cameron Cox (2-0) and
Kiel Harmon (1-0) picked up victories on the hill. Cox allowed only four hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort, while Harmon gave up a run on one hit and fanned two in 5.1 stanzas.
Relievers
Brandon Garwood and
Dillon Stavinoha combined to hold Ozarks scoreless in 2.2 panels.
The Tornados will hit the road for the first time next weekend. Concordia will travel to Louisiana College for a three-game American Southwest Conference series. The set opens with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 28 in Pineville, La.
