TYLER, Texas – The seventh-seed Concordia University Texas women's basketball team was unable to pull an upset in the American Southwest Conference Tournament Quarterfinals, as No. 2-seed Texas-Dallas held off the Tornados for a 79-70 victory on Friday afternoon at the Herrington Patriot Center.

Tyler Compton's game-high 20 points was not enough for Concordia Texas (11-15). The Tornados shot 37.5 percent (27-of-72) from the field and only 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from beyond the arc. CTX also managed 70 percent (14-for-20) from the free-throw line.

Kia Love chipped in with 10 points, while Darnetta Jackson scored eight and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

The Comets (21-5), who shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the floor, overcame 17 turnovers to post a nine-point victory.

Morgan Kilgore tallied a double-double to lead the way with 19 points and 10 boards. Jo'Anna Davis added 17 points, while Amber Brown and Ashley Shaw posted 10 points apiece.

Texas-Dallas broke a 6-6 tie on Kilgore's layup with 14:50 left in the first half and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

The Comets held a 31-25 advantage at halftime and increased their lead to as much as 12 points in the second half.

However, Concordia kept chipping away at the lead and pulled within six points with 2:07 to play after Compton completed a traditional three-point play.

After Texas-Dallas again increased the lead to double digits, the Tornados received four straight points from Ashley Humbles to pull within 73-67 with 1:17 remaining.

However, Concordia was unable to get any closer and the Comets scored six of the final nine points to claim the contest.

Texas-Dallas will face third-seeded Mary Hardin-Baylor in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday.
