East Texas Baptist downs Concordia Texas on Thursday, 63-60

AUSTIN, Texas – Kia Love scored a season-high 19 points, but the rest of the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team struggled from the floor and East Texas Baptist captured a 63-60 victory in an American Southwest Conference (ASC) contest on Thursday at Concordia Fieldhouse.

Love was 4-of-8 from the field and 11-for-11 from the free-throw line to score all of her points in 17 second-half minutes.

With the Tornados (9-11, 7-10 ASC) trailing 35-27, she scored 12 consecutive points to cut an eight-point defict to just two. However, the Tigers (8-11, 6-10 ASC), who shot 45.1 percent from the floor, pushed the lead back to 53-44, thanks to a 11-6 spurt.

Concordia Texas chipped away at the lead were able to get within 61-60 after Celeste Laredo knocked down a pair of free throws. The Tornados fouled on the ensuing possession and Slim Stewart hit a pair of shots from the charity stripe to push the lead back to three.

On Concordia's final possession, Laredo had a 3-pointer blocked by Stewart and Jasmine Davis picked up the rebound to clinch the win.

The Tornados shot just 29 percent (20-of-69) from the floor, including a season-low 4.3 percent (1-for-23) from beyond the arc.

Davis scored 14 points to pace East Texas Baptist, while Stewart and April Leonard added 11 apiece.

Concordia will close out its home stand on Saturday, as it hosts LeTourneau at 1 p.m.
