BOX SCORE 2 TYLER, Texas – The 20th-ranked Concordia University Texas baseball team suffered its first series sweep of the season after Texas-Tyler posted a pair of one-run victories on Friday afternoon at Irwin Field. The Patriots won the opening contest, 1-0, and registered a come-from-behind 3-2 win in the second tilt.
Concordia Texas (23-10, 18-8 ASC) had a chance to salvage the set with a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, but Texas-Tyler (13-21, 11-16 ASC) logged two runs in the fifth to tie th contest. The Patriots then scored the go-ahead run in the eighth and held on to close out the series.
In the opening game, Texas-Tyler limited the Tornados to only three hits, and the Patriots scored a run in the third inning that stood up the rest of the way.
Colton Poindexter led CTX at the plate with three hits, including a double, and two stolen bases.
The Tornados will return home next weekend to host Sul Ross State in a three-game set.
