BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – Scott Weinschenk went the distance, striking out nine in the process, and the 29th-ranked Concordia University Texas baseball team rolled to a 7-1 victory over Sul Ross State in the series opener on Friday night at Tornado Field.
Weinschenk (7-3) hurled four-and-one-third innings of no-hit ball and struck out eight of the first 10 batters he faced.
The Tornados (24-10, 19-8 ASC) backed up their starting pitcher with a run in the second, three in the fifth, two in the seventh and one more tally in the eighth.
The Lobos (17-18, 13-15 ASC) picked up their lone run in the ninth on Johnny Campos' RBI groundout, which scored Tuner Mattson from third base.
Colton Poindexter paced CTX with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate that included two RBIs.
Garrett Benyo was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while
Connor Bertsch had a single and drove in a run.
Brandon Hollier and
Tyler Bain both added RBIs for the Tornados.
The set concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
