BOX SCORE GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas women's basketball team scored 27 points off 33 Southwestern turnovers en route to a 51-43 victory over the crosstown rivals Saturday afternoon.
Jaela Dejen recorded a team-high 15 points to lead the Tornados' offensive effort in the squad's third straight victory.
Isis Johnson tallied a game-high four steals while Dejean chipped in three. As a team, Concordia grabbed 17 thefts.
After back-and-forth action early, the Tornados (3-1) grabbed the lead on a three-pointer from
Emily Cullers with 1:19 left in the second quarter. Concordia would never look back en route to the victory. The Purple and Gold used a 5-0 run to gain a seven-point advantage at the end of the third quarter. The momentum continued into the fourth with an early 9-0 spurt to give the Tornados a 13-point lead with 4:24 left to play.
The Pirates (0-5) were able to outscore their guests 8-3 over the closing minutes, but the comeback effort fell short.
Concordia returns to action tomorrow against St. Thomas (Houston). Tip-off is at noon at Southwestern.
