AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas men's soccer team is set for its first-ever berth to the American Southwest Conference Tournament. The event runs Nov. 5, 7 and 8 at UT Tyler.
The Tornados compiled a program-best 11-2-1 record, helped by a record seven-game winning streak to start the season. CTX posted a 4-2-1 ASC record, marking the best turnaround in school history. Concordia did not win a single ASC match in 2014.
Concordia comes into tomorrow night's contest with program records for goals scored (32) and goals surrendered (14).
Diego Outeiral leads the team and is tied-for-fourth in the ASC with nine goals while
Fabian Billings and
Alejandro Labastida have five each, tied-for-ninth in the ASC.
Farauz Abbaszadeh has a team-best four assists, which ranks him third in the conference.
Marc Kouassi, Labastida and Outeiral have three helperseach and are tied for sixth in the ASC.
Four of Outeiral's goals proved to be game winners, ranking third in the conference and establishing a program record.
Senior
Nick Martin has been very strong in goal, getting 45 saves, He has four clean sheets on the year by himself and combined with
Josh Arteaga for a fifth.
The Tornados take on a strong Ozarks squad for the first time this season. The two teams' regular season meeting was cancelled due to heavy rain.
The Eagles make their third consecutive post-season appearance after finishing the season at 7-6-3 to earn the league's No. 6 seed.
Travis Leach leads UO with five goals and teammate Thomas Mills has five helpers. Netminder Austin Benner also has four shutouts this season. Both Benner and Martin are tied for fifth in the conference.
The winner of Thursday's game will go on to face No. 2 seed UT Dallas in the semifinals on Saturday. The winner of the ASC Tournament earns the league's automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament.
