AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas baseball team busted out during the middle innings to defeat Louisiana College, 8-3, Saturday at Tornado Field. The Tornados also earned the series sweep and remained unbeaten in American Southwest Conference play.
Concordia Texas (9-3, 5-0 ASC), which pushed its winning streak to five games, scored all eight of its runs in innings four through seven. The Tornados plated a run in the fourth, four in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to defeat the Wildcats (3-7, 1-5 ASC).
Michael Evan continued his impressive start at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Race Mellman was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and
Luke Kress added a pair of hits.
Garrett Benyo was 1-for-3 with a double and drove in a run.
Josh Smith (2-0) earned the win in relief, as the right-hander allowed only one run on two hits over four innings of work. Smith also fanned three.
Ty Bratton (1) picked up the save after holding Louisiana College scoreless over the final 1.2 stanzas. The right-hander also struck out three.
Brandon Garwood started on the mound for CTX. The junior left-hander worked only three innings, but held the Wildcats to just two hits during his second start of the season.
Concordia will return to action at 1 p.m. Sunday, as the squad hosts DeSales in a non-conference tilt at Tornado Field.
