SEGUIN, Texas – Michael Evan hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and the 23rd-ranked Concordia University Texas baseball team defeated Centenary 4-3 at the Texas Lutheran Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Katt-Isbel Field.
WHERE THEY STAND• The Tornados improved to 2-1 overall.
• The Gents fell to 1-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED• Concordia Texas scored three runs in the second inning, including two on back-to-back RBI singles by
Gareth Hutton and
Race Mellman.
• Centenary capitalized on a Tornado error in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs.
• In the third inning, the Gents pulled even on Kody Carson's run-scoring single.
• After a pair of scoreless frames, Evan stepped up and hammered a 3-2 offering from reliever Michael Francis over the left-field wall.
• The rest of the game belonged to
Drew Van Winkle, who came on in the sixth and hurled four scoreless panels to pick up his first career save.

Josh Smith earned the win after five innings of work, which saw him give up three runs (one earned) on six hits. The right-hander also fanned five.
• The Tornados only managed five hits on the day, but the big one was Evan's first collegiate round-tripper.
