Cox leads No. 10 Tornados to split on Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas – Cameron Cox hurled his fourth shutout of the season, and the 10th-ranked Concordia University Texas baseball team split a doubleheader with LeTourneau on Saturday at Tornado Field. The Tornados claimed the opener 3-0 to clinch the series, while the YellowJackets picked up a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.

Cox (7-0), who has not allowed an earned run in his last 41.2 innings of work, scattered six hits and struck out seven to lead Concordia Texas (20-5, 15-2 ASC) to its 10th consecutive win.

The Tornados put Cox in front in the third inning, as Michael Evan drove in Luke Kress on a single. Three frames later, CTX pushed across a pair of runs to cap the scoring.

In the finale, LeTourneau (9-7, 6-4 ASC) scored a run in each of the first three innings to take an early lead. The YellowJackets added a fourth run in the sixth.

Concordia picked up its lone tally in the seventh, as Adam Ortega scored on an error after Kress doubled down the right-field line.

The Tornados out-hit LeTourneau in both games, including a 7-6 advantage in the nightcap. Cox was 2-for-4 to lead CTX in the second game, while Evan and Gareth Hutton each collected a pair of knocks in the first contest.

The Tornados will step out of conference play and travel to No. 6 Trinity on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. in San Antonio.
