Comets' Late Push Dooms Tornado Women, CTX falls 75-65

BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- The first victory of 2016 continues to elude the Concordia Texas women's basketball team as the Tornados fell short 75-65 to UT Dallas Monday evening.

Concordia (7-8, 0-6 ASC) trailed by 15 points early in the first quarter but rallied in the second to take a 37-34 lead into the break. The Comets (9-6. 3-4) held CTX to just three field goals in the opening quarter, but the Tornados were able to return the favor in the second, holding UTD to just two. The Tornados' lead grew to seven with 7:26 left in the third quarter, but the Comets took off on an 8-1 run to regain the lead. The squads went back and forth as the period wound down, but UTD went into the fourth holding a 55-53 lead.

The Comets put the game away on a 15-2 run over the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter, opening up a 70-55 gap. The Tornados answered to cut the deficit to six with less than two minutes remaining and outscored UTD 10-5 in the closing moments, however it was not enough.

Jaela Dejean finished with a game-high 16 points and was one of five Tornados in double-digits. Da'Quayla Terry and Alexis Copeland added 13 points and 12, respectively while Emily Cullers and Isis Johnson both tallied 11. Madison Steele and Micalea Gonzalez both led UTD with 15 apiece. Johnson led Concordia with eight boards. 

The Tornados continue the homestand Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Sul Ross State.
