BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- Five different Tornados scored, including four in the second half, as Concordia Texas pitched a 5-0 shutout over ETBU to clinch a berth in the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Friday night at St. Stephen's.
Isaiah Coombs' unassisted goal in the ninth minute was the only highlight for the Tornados in the first half. He would go on to add an assist in the second half. Concordia had many scoring chances in the first half as they totaled 10 shots with six of them on goal, but were unable to convert.
In the second half, the Tornados did not let those scoring chances slip away as they scored four goals in the period. Fabian Billings, Alejandro Labastida, CJ Linn and Erik Villalba each scored a goal for Concordia as the rout became apparent. Goalkeeper Rob Oakley had two saves in the whole match, but also tallied an assist on Labastida's goal as his goal kick bounced over defenders and gave Labastida a lane to the net. Linn scored his goal in the 65th minute and then had an assist on Villalba's goal in the 82nd minute.
Labastida and Billings both now have five goals on the season, while Coombs and Linn bot h tallied their first goal-and-assist games this season. The Tornados finished with 19 shots, including 13 on goal. The win secured Concordia its second consecutive ASC Tournament berth.
The five goals on the night also set some program records, as the Tornados brought the season total to 36 goals, erasing last year's record of 31. The shutout for Concordia was its seventh of the season, also a new program record.
The win improved the Tornados to 10-3 (5-2) on the season and gave them their second 10-win season in program history. Concordia returns to the pitch for senior night against LeTourneau tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
