CTX Women’s Soccer Falls Short in ASC Tourney First Round

11/1/2016 7:26:00 PM

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's soccer team fell 2-1 at UT Dallas Tuesday in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.

The Comets' Melissa Fulfer converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to break a 1-1 tie and win the contest for UTD.

Despite the fourth-seeded UTD squad scoring just 78 seconds into the game on Jacquie Kaufman's goal, the fifth-seeded CTX crew battled the remainder of the first half. While down 1-0 after 45 minutes, the Tornados came out of the intermission with fire. In the 53rd minute, Peyton Heilig found the back of the net after a great pass off a free kick from Skylar Larkin. The tally evened the match up, and it stood there until Concordia's foul in the box in the 89th.

The Tornados end the season at 8-7-1 overall for the program's best record since 2012. CTX made its eighth consecutive ASC Tournament in 2016 and finished fifth in league play with a 6-5-0 conference record.

The third-seeded Concordia men's team takes the pitch at UT Dallas on Thursday, when they will face fourth-seeded Ozarks. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
