Tornados’ ASC Tournament Run Ends in Shootout Following 0-0 Tie

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team battled top-seeded UT Dallas for 110 minutes, and after a 0-0 stalemate, the teams went to a shootout, in which the Comets earned the right to advance on a 5-3 decision.

The Tornado defense helped keep the game scoreless, blocking seven Comet shots before they got back to keeper Rob Oakley. Oakley made three saves to help his cause and earned his fifth shutout. The redshirt freshman ended the season with over 260 straight minutes of shutout soccer.

CTX put seven shots on target and UTD backstop Joseph Weber was there to pick up all of them. The Comet defense also picked up a block.

Both teams had multiple chances to score throughout the contest, but the last shots on goal for either team during regulation came in the 78th minute.

The Comets opened the first overtime period with an onslaught of three shots. Oakley saved one and the CTX backline stopped the others.

The Tornados fired two shots on goal in the second extra period, and Weber picked up both.

In the shootout round, Diego Outerial, Fabian Billings and Omar Aguirre all converted their attempts.
