BOX SCORE ALPINE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team clinched an ASC Tournament berth with a 65-52 road victory over Sul Ross State Saturday afternoon.
Kayla Strobel registered a game-high 23 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-6 from the 3-point line. Brenisha Payne added 10 points to lead the Tornados' (12-11, 4-9 ASC) scoring effort. Isis Johnson grabbed a team-best eight boards.
Concordia established control early with a 21-8 start to the contest. Strobel ended the first 10 minutes with 11 points.
Sul Ross (4-20, 1-12) staged a comeback effort in the second and was able to draw within a basket with 6:07 left in the half. The Tornados quickly regrouped and would take a 36-28 lead into the half.
CTX effectively put the game away with a huge third quarter, outscoring the Lobos 18-10 in the period.
Concordia returns home Thursday, Feb. 18 when they host Hardin-Simmons on Pack the House Night. Wear purple to show your support of the Tornados. The fun begins at 5:30 p.m.
