BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas baseball team dropped Tuesday night's game against No. 7 Trinity by an 8-2 score at Tornado Field despite a good start from Josh Smith.

Smith surrendered an unearned run in three innings of work and left the game with a 2-1 lead.

The Concordia (2-4) offense was able to get on the board first, plating two in the bottom of the first inning. Michael Evan had the Tornados' lone RBI after driving in Alex Britz from second. Connor Bertsch then walked and come around to score on a wild pitch.

Concordia would have Britz at third and Evan at second with two out, but they would be left on base.

The Tigers (6-2) scratched one across in the top of the second on an unearned run, cashing in on a pair of CTX errors.

Trinity then tagged reliever Dillon Stavinoha for three charged runs in the top of the fourth. After allowing the first two batters to reach, Stavinoha settled down, however, he surrendered a one-out, two-run double to George Haaland that gave the Tigers the lead.

Connor Moore then drove in Haaland on an RBI triple.

The Tigers made it a 5-2 game after scoring on a passed ball in the 5th.

CTX would only get two more hits and three more base runners the remainder of the game.

The big blow came in the top of the eighth, when Moore belted a wind-assisted three-run homer to right. Moore went 3-for-5 with four RBI. He had a double, triple and a home run in that order for his three hits.

Concordia returns to action Friday at Southwestern. First pitch is at 7 p.m. in Georgetown.
