AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team's bats exploded for a total of 14 runs on 21 hits across Saturday's doubleheader at Tornado Field. The Tornados won game one 11-2 in seven innings but fell 4-3 in nine in the finale.

GAME ONE: CTX 11, SU 2 (7)

Concordia tallied 11 runs on 13 hits in the opener, plating the first nine in the third and fourth frames alone as the Tornados (4-5) cruised to an 11-2 victory in the middle game of the three-contest set.

Colton Poindexter was 3-for-4 with three RBI while Race Mellman went 2-for-4 and drove in three. Gareth Hutton drove in a pair in a 2-for-4 outing at the plate. Caleb Maddox and Wilkes Swaim also had two-hit games. Michael Evan drew three walks and stole a base. Maddox, Swaim, Evan and Poindexter all scored a pair of runs each.

Lane Hobbs was masterful in the complete game victory, surrendering just two unearned runs on seven Southwestern hits. He fanned nine and did not surrender a free pass.

Hutton's two-run double in the fifth made it a 5-0 contest and capped a 5-run frame for CTX in the bottom of the third.

The Pirates scored two unearned runs in the top of the fourth after a Concordia error. Southwestern's Colten Shea and Ben Little doubled and tripled, respectively, to put their squad on the board.

The Tornados answered with four more runs in the home half of the frame. Poindexter's two-run double moved Evan to third. Evan later stole home to make it an 8-2 contest. Mellman made it 9-2 on an RBI groundout.

Concordia added single runs in the fifth and sixth.

GAME TWO – Pirates 4, Tornados 3

Southwestern made an immediate statement in Saturday's finale, scoring three runs in the top of the first.

Will Cates struck out to start the ballgame, but he reached base on a dropped third strike. He would move up to second on a wild pitch and took third on a sacrifice fly. Cates scored on Ethan Luna's RBI ground-rule double. Luna would score on an RBI single from Ethan Hallmark. Then, Robert Wehmann drew a bases-loaded walk.

Tyler Johnson came through in the bottom of the third to make it a 3-2 contest as the catcher roped a two-run single two left. Unfortunately, Johnson was cut down trying to stretch the hit into a double for the third out of the inning.

Austyn Laird drove in the eventual game-winning run on a single in the top of the third.

It remained a 4-2 contest until the bottom of the seventh, when Concordia finally got back on the board. Adam Ortega laid down a perfect bunt with runners at the corners and one down, driving in the run. The shortstop would reach thanks to a Pirate error.

Southwestern starter Will Preston yielded a two-out walk to load the bases for Tornado pinch-hitter Caleb Maddox. Reliever Tyler Polasek caught Maddox looking on a 2-2 pitch to retire the side.

Concordia loaded the bases once again in the bottom of the ninth with two down, putting the tying run 90 feet away, but the Pirates' third pitcher of the contest, Riley Wayland got Wilkes Swaim to pop out to second, ending both the Tornado threat and the ballgame.

The Tornados begin the first of two season-long four-game road trips on Tuesday night at Trinity. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. in San Antonio.
