BOX SCORE SAN ANTONIO – The No. 18 Concordia Texas baseball team fell 11-1 in just its second road contest of the year Tuesday night at No. 4 Trinity.
The Tigers (10-2) scored early and often. It was quickly 5-0 after two innings. TU would add six more with single runs in the fourth and sixth then tagged Concordia's (4-6) defense for four unearned tallies in the bottom of the seventh.
Jose Nelson's first inning two-run homer was the biggest blow among Trinity's 13 hits.
Connor Bertsch broke up Troy Nelson's bid for a perfect game by reaching on an error in the top of the third, Garreth Hutton then broke up the no-hit bid a batter later with a single. Concordia nearly got on the board in that frame, but Bertsch was cut down at the plate. Hutton was then picked off third base for the second out and the Tornado threat quickly ended.
Concordia was able to get on the board in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout from Caleb Rodriguez.
Race Mellman joined Hutton with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Bertsch had the only other hit for the Tornados.
Dylan Stavinoha suffered the loss, yielding three unearned runs in one inning. Nelson improved to 2-0 with the win for Trinity.
