BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team scored 12 runs on 16 hits Sunday afternoon in a seven-inning defeat of No. 16 UT Tyler.
The Tornados (9-8, 4-2 ASC) set a season high in runs scored and tied their season-best hit total.
Michael Evan was 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI to pace the CTX offense. Bret Leiferman was 3-for-5 with three driven in and four runs scored. Race Mellman and Jake Valadez both had a pair of hits and two RBI. Caleb Maddox also had a two-hit outing.
Concordia exploded for four runs in the third and six in the fifth to put the contest away. Valadez, Leiferman and Maddox all doubled in the contest while Mellman had a triple.
UT Tyler (12-6, 4-2) scratched its only run of the contest in the top of the fourth.
Matthew Brown and Justin Traxler held the Patriots to just seven total hits. Traxler was credited with the victory and improved to 3-1 on the season.
The Tornados return to action tomorrow afternoon against Spalding. First pitch is at 2:30 p.m.
