BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – Concordia Texas bested No. 20 Concordia Chicago 13-0 in seven innings Saturday afternoon at Tornado Field to even series at one game apiece.
The Tornados struck first on two outs after catching a break. Colton Poindexter reached on a dropped third strike to load the bases. Afterwards, Connor Bertsch drove in the first run on an RBI single. Gareth Hutton drove in two more on a double to left.
CTX added three more in the bottom of the second and one in the fifth to add some insurance. The Tornados then sent nine to the plate and scored six in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 13-0 contest. Garrett Benyo's pinch-hit, three-run homer was the big blow in the frame.
Lane Hobbs went 6 1/3 innings, struck out four and scattered just five hits. Dillon Stavinoha helped complete the shutout by getting the only batter he faced to ground into a double play.
It was the second time in as many weeks that CTX took home a run-rule victory over a nationally-ranked squad.
The Tornados and Cougars conclude the series tomorrow at 11 a.m.
