BOX SCORE CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- The Concordia Texas baseball team fell 5-2 Friday in its American Southwest Conference opener at Ozarks.
The Eagles (7-5, 2-2 ASC) took advantage of six Tornado (4-7, 0-1 ASC) errors in the 5-2 decision. Of UO's five runs, only three were earned.
Ozarks scored in the bottom of the first, cashing in on a lead-off walk. They would add four more runs with two-run frames in both the fourth and fifth innings. Both of the tallies in the fourth were the result of Concordia errors. In the fifth, the Eagles scored after a one-out triple, an RBI single and then an RBI double.
It remained a 5-0 contest until the top of the seventh, when
Garrett Benyo blasted his first homer of the year, a two-run shot that put a charge into the Tornado offense. Concordia would scatter seven hits all together in the contest.
Alex Britz was the only CTX batter to get multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
Josh Smith suffered his first loss of the season.
Sean Mathews,
Dillon Stavinoha and
Ty Bratton kept Ozarks off the board in relief.
The series continues tomorrow at 12 noon.
