BOX SCORE

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team dropped its series opener against UT Dallas by a 7-3 tally Friday night at Tornado Field.

A four-run top of the ninth put the Comets (12-10, 4-7 ASC) on top. Brandon George's two-run double was the big blow, but UTD gained the lead on a bases-loaded passed ball earlier in the frame.

Concordia (15-10, 7-3) scored first after Race Mellman singled. Alex Britz doubled and scored from second after an error on an attempt to catch Mellman trying to get second. Mellman came around after the UT Dallas shortstop sent the throw into right field. The Tornado outfielder would finish the contest 2-for-4.

The Tornados increased their lead to 3-0 on an RBI groundout from Adam Ortega in the bottom of the second.

The Comets got two runs back in the top of the third with an RBI groundout and an RBI single.

CTX threatened with the bases loaded and two outs, but UTD starter Aaron Bach responded by striking out Bret Leiferman.

Bach went on to breeze through the next eight batters before Leiferman singled in the top of the seventh.

It remained a 3-2 contest until the Comets tied the game on a costly Concordia error with two outs in the top of the seventh. The miscue erased a stellar outing from starter Matthew Brown, who yielded two runs on five hits in five innings and fanned four.

The two teams will go back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
