BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team crushed Belhaven 19-1 Friday night for the program's 20th win of 2016.
The Tornados' 19 runs set a new Tornado Field record, beating out the previous mark of 17, set back in February 2013 against Ozarks.
This is now the sixth consecutive 20-win season for the Tornados, 15th since they joined the ASC back in 1999 and 26th overall since Concordia became a four-year school (1981).
Connor Bertsch was 4-for-4 with two RBI and Michael Evan was 3-for-4. Both men scored a team-high three runs each.
Eight of CTX's runs came in the very first inning, when the Tornados sent 13 to the plate. Concordia added three in the second, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the seventh.
Josh Smith went seven innings and was extremely efficient, striking out six and scattering four hits on just 69 pitches thrown. The lone run he surrendered was a homer to the Blazers Konner James.
The two teams resume the series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
