AUSTIN, Texas -- Junior right hander
Lane Hobbs struck out nine in his complete-game, three-hit shutout to lead the Concordia Texas to a 2-0 victory over UT Dallas in the ASC Baseball Championship Blue Bracket.
Hobbs also allowed one walk. He worked out of a couple of jams where the Comets had runners in scoring position. He cruised through 10 batters in a row before yielding his second hit of the game. He then was able pick off the runner and retired the rest of the UTD order in the top of the sixth.
While the Comets got the first hit of the game, they stranded six.
Concordia drew first blood in the bottom of the first on
Colton Poindexter's sacrifice fly. The Tornados wouldn't add another run until the bottom of the seventh on
Michael Evan's RBI single.
CTX won the toss and will be the home team in its 4 p.m. contest against UT Tyler. Action tomorrow begins at 1 p.m. between LeTourneau and UT Dallas.
