ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Men's Tennis team, in a team match that lasted a near six hours, rallied to defeat McMurry 5-4 for their first win of the season on Friday night.
In the doubles matches, the Tornados would go down 2-1, after the duo of
Adrian Montes and
Holt Fields won their match 8-2.
Zach Haynie and
Leo Marchesi battled in their match taking it to an extra game, but fell 9-7.
Micah Austin and
Isaac Glynn kept in close, but were unable to rally late, losing the set 8-5.
In the singles matches, two of the six matches would go to a third set tiebreaker. Marchesi would get the first win of the singles matches for CTX winning 6-4, 6-4. Montes would get the second singles win after winning a first set tiebreaker 7-0 and taking the second set 6-3. Austin was unable to force a third set tiebreaker, falling 6-2, 6-3. Fields would go to a third set after breaking serve to take the second set 6-4, but lost the final set 6-3.
Down 4-3 in the team match, the Tornados relied on Haynie and Glynn in the final two matches of the night. Glynn would take the first set 6-3, tied at 6-all in the second set, it went to a tiebreaker. He would take the tiebreaker7-4, and earned the victory to tie it up at 4-all. Haynie went up early taking the first set 6-1, but would drop the second set 6-3. In the third and final set to decide the match itself and the overall team match, Haynie would not be deterred winning the set 6-0.
Next up, CTX will face Hardin-Simmons looking for consecutive wins, on Saturday at 9 a.m.
