Tornados finish regular season with win over McMurry

BOX SCORE ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Women's Basketball ended their regular season with a 65-49 win over McMurry on Saturday afternoon.
 
Jaela Dejean scored a game-high 23 points for the Tornados (16-9, 9-7 ASC), while Mercedes Ellison scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. CTX committed 23 turnovers, but held the War Hawks (9-15, 5-11 ASC) to 25.4 percent from the field. The Tornados held McMurry to 49 points, which is the fourth-lowest point total they have allowed this season.
 
It was a low-scoring first quarter, as CTX held a slight 12-11 lead after one. Five different Tornados would score in the quarter, led by Desiray Davis' four points. In the second, CTX would outscore the War Hawks 23-11, including a 13-2 run to close out the first half. The Tornados would score nine points off turnovers in the quarter, as they forced 18 McMurry turnovers in the game. Emily Cullers and Ellison each had seven points at the midway point, while Dejean had eight points in the second quarter alone, as CTX held a 35-22 lead.
 
In the third quarter, the Tornados would hold McMurry to 3-9 from the field and nine points total, while scoring 17 points to widen their lead to 52-31. CTX would end the quarter on a 17-3 run, capped by a Meghan Musso three-pointer. Dejean scored nine points in the quarter, including one from behind the arc. The Tornados would be outscored 18-13 in the fourth quarter, but never let the War Hawks get closer than 12 points. CTX would close the game out at the free-throw and went on to win 65-49.
 
Up next, the Tornados will open the ASC tourney as the three seed from the West division. They will travel to tournament host Howard Payne to play the two seed from the East division in UT Tyler on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m.
