Tornados walk-off win against Concordia Chicago

AUSTIN, Texas -  The Concordia Baseball team rallied from a run down in the ninth-inning to defeat Concordia Chicago 5-4 on a walk-off single on Saturday afternoon.

Heading into their final at bat of the day, the Tornados trailed the Cougars 4-3 since the fifth inning. Race Mellman lead off the inning with a single, but would be the force out at second on a fielder's choice by Michael Evan. Cameron Rape came in to pinch-run for Evan. Casen Novak followed up with a single to put runners on the corners.

Tyler Johnson, pinch-hitting for Gunner Hollier, laid down the safety squeeze bunt to bring home Rape and tie the game up at 4-4 while Novak reached second. With Colton Poindexter at the plate, Novak would move to third on a passed ball. Poindexter hit a hard grounder to the left side of the infield past the diving shortstop to bring home Novak and the second straight win for CTX over tenth-ranked CUC.

Cole Angelle got his first win of the year as he pitched the final 3.2 innings of the game allowing no runs on one hit, while striking out three. Jake Valadez, who started the game, was given a no decision after pitching into the fourth inning and gave up three runs on three hits, but struck out five hitters.

Luke Kress had a hit and two RBIs for the Tornados, who scored their first three runs in the third. One out singles by Poindexter and Caleb Maddox started off the third inning. They would both come home on Kress' double to left-center. Kress would move to third on a Bret Leiferman single and come home on a Jake Valadez sac fly to make it 3-2.

The Cougars scored a run in each the fourth and fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead before CTX's rally in the ninth.

The Tornados go for their fourth consecutive win on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Southwestern.
