BOX SCORE LONGVIEW, Texas – The Concordia Baseball, led by
Matthew Brown's scoreless outing, defeated LeTourneau 9-0 in the first game of a three-game series on Friday night.
Brown, the reigning two-time American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week, pitched 7.1 innings, giving up only five hits while striking out three. It was Brown's third straight win on the season.
The Tornados would give Brown run support in the fourth, scoring three runs.
Bret Leiferman, led off the inning with a walk, followed by a
Jake Valadez double.
Race Mellman reached on an error to load the bases.
Leiferman came home on an RBI walk by
Michael Evan. Valadez scored on a Yellow Jackets' error, followed by a
Colton Poindexter sac fly to make it 3-0.
CTX would add a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 5-0. Brown, meanwhile, would set down nine of ten LETU batters and only allowed one extra-base hit.
Sean Matthews would come on in relief for Brown, allowing only one hit to close out the game. The Tornados would score four runs in the last two innings to make it 9-0.
Caleb Maddox,
Casen Novak,
Ryan Clouse and Valadez would all finish the game with two hits each as CTX won its eighth game of their last nine.
The Tornados will return to the field on Saturday in a doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets beginning at 1 p.m.
