Evan's two triples leads the Tornados past UT Dallas

AUSTIN, Texas- The Concordia Baseball team held off a ninth-inning rally by UT Dallas, winning 4-2 for their seventh straight win on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tornados (13-7, 5-1 ASC) entered the final frame, leading the Comets (15-4, 4-2 ASC) 4-2 and Kylen Harrell on the mound for his third inning of work. After a lead-off ground out, Harrell would walk the next two batters, which led to a pitching change.

Sean Mathews came on to face the top of the order. Mathews, against one of the highest-scoring teams in the nation, struck out the next two hitters to end the game and give CTX the win.

Cole Angelle, who started the game, picked up his second win of the season as he went three innings, giving up only two hits and a run. Michael Evan had two triples on the day, scoring twice and driving in a pair.

The Tornados grabbed the lead in the second inning on Evan's first triple of the day into left, which scored Jake Valadez from second. Evan would score one batter later on Luke Kress' RBI groundout.

UTD would get a run back in the fourth on a passed ball to make it 2-1. CTX responded with another run in the bottom half of the inning on Ryan Clouse's RBI double.

The Tornados' infield held the Comets in check throughout the game as they turned three double-plays on the day. CTX would add an insurance run in the seventh on Evan's second triple, this one to right-center, to make it 4-2.

Mathews' ninth-inning appearance earned him his first save on the season as CTX has now won 11 of their last 12 games after starting the season at 2-6.

CTX will look for its eight straight win on Friday when they will host Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7 p.m. at Tornado Field.
