Tornados fall short to Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. – The Concordia Baseball team scored in four straight innings in a high-scoring affiar, but it was not enough, losing the series finale 12-11 to Belhaven on Saturday afternoon.

The Tornados tallied 11 runs on 15 hits, including a grand slam by Colton Poindexter in the sixth. Caleb Rodriguez had one hit, driving in three runs, while Wilkes Swaim had three hits at the plate scoring once and an RBI.

After the Blazers scored a pair of runs in the first inning, CTX would tie it up in the second on an RBI double by Clarence Guidry III and a sac fly by Rodriguez, driving in Jake Valadez and Race Mellman respectfully.

BU would retake the lead in the second and led 4-2 after the first three frames. The Tornados would score a combined nine runs between the fourth and seventh innings, including a pair of runs in the fifth and the seventh, and led 11-5 heading into the bottom half of the seventh.

The Blazers would make it 11-8 after scoring three runs on six hits in the seventh, including a two-run home run. In the eighth, BU would retake the lead as they pushed across four runs after another two-run home run and led 12-11 going into the ninth.

CTX would put runners in scoring position with two outs in the ninth, but Poindexter would strike out looking to end the game.

The Tornados will continue on the road when they will travel to Brownwood, Texas for a three-game series against Howard Payne on Friday, March 31 at 2 p.m.
