AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Baseball team used a combined four pitchers, allowing only three runs, defeating East Texas Baptist 6-3 on Friday night for their fifth-straight win.
The Tornados took advantage of five Tigers' errors as they were able to score six runs on nine hits.
Clarence Guidry had a pair of hits in the leadoff spot, while
Wilkes Swaim had a hit and scored twice for CTX.
Matthew Brown (5-2) would earn the win as he came on in relief of
Kylen Harrell, who started the game, pitching two innings and giving up only a hit.
Sean Mathews pitched a scoreless seventh and
Justin Traxler shut the door on ETBU, striking out five of the six hitters for his third save of the season.
The Tornados grabbed the lead in the second on a solo shot over the left field wall by
Caleb Maddox, his third of the year, and would add another run when Swaim came home on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 2-0.
After the Tigers scored a run in the third and fourth to tie it up, CTX responded with another pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth on an RBI double by
Race Mellman and an RBI single from
Casen Novak and led 4-2.
The Tornados added a run in the sixth and a late insurance run in the eighth and led 6-3 going into the ninth. In ETBU's final at-bat, Traxler would strike out the side to end the game.
CTX seeks their sixth-straight win on Saturday when they will close out the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
