BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Concordia Men's Tennis team, behind a sweep in doubles, defeated Howard Payne 8-1 on Friday for their second straight conference win.
The Tornados went up early in the match after winning all three doubles matches. At line one,
Holt Fields and
Leo Marchesi only broke the Yellow Jackets serve once, but it was more than enough for an 8-6 win.
Zach Haynie and
Clayton Hernandez earned an 8-5 victory at line two, while
Micah Austin and
Adrian Montes cruised to an 8-1 win at line three.
In singles, CTX took five of the matches, winning at lines two through six. Marchesi, at line two, only allowed two games in each set on the way to straight set victory, while Hernandez did not allow a game in the first set and made quick work in the second set for the victory. Haynie battled at line four, earning a tough 7-5 first set and winning the second set 6-4. Montes and
Isaac Glynn closed out the match for the Tornados with straight set wins.
CTX will next head to Dallas, Texas for their second match in as many days, facing UT Dallas on Saturday at 10 a.m.
