AUSTIN, Texas – Led by the top goal scorer in the American Southwest Conference
Omar Aguirre, the Concordia Texas men's soccer team will play host to LeTourneau at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in the ASC Quarterfinals.
The Tornados finished the regular season at 9-5-1, 8-3 in ASC play to earn the No. 3 seed in the ASC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, closed the year at 6-8-2, 5-5-1 ASC to grab the No. 6 seed.
"We are excited about the upcoming ASC Tournament," CTX head coach
Nick Mims said. "The squad is focused and ready to get things started. The team has continued to improve throughout the conference schedule so that we are at our best."
Aguirre closed the regular season with a bang by producing a hat trick in the 4-1 win over Sul Ross State. The senior from Austin, Texas, set both the single season (13) and career goals scored (21) school records in the victory. He leads the ASC in both goals scored and total points.
The win over Sul Ross also set a school record for the most conference wins in program history with eight.
The two teams faced off earlier this season, with the Tornados taking home a 4-1 victory. Aguirre scored three goals in the win while
Trevor Stovall added another.
Defensively, CTX has been stellar all season led by goalkeeper
Rob Oakley. The redshirt junior out of Dallas leads the ASC with five shutouts on the year and ranks fifth in the conference with a .754 save percentage.
Mims feels like his team is ready for the challenges of the ASC Tournament.
"We are confident about what we can achieve this week," Mims said. "But we know anything can happen in the conference tournament, especially with the strength of all eight teams in the tournament."
The winner of the CTX-LETU matchup will advance to the ASC Semifinals and face the winner of No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor and No. 7 McMurry on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Richardson, Texas. ASC Regular Season Champion UT Dallas will host both the ASC Semifinals and Championship matches on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
