TUSCON, Ariz. – Facing the number two team in the nation and the reigning national champions, the Concordia Texas baseball team used a six-run seventh inning to defeat Cal Lutheran 12-6 at the Kino Sports Complex on Saturday.
Seven Tornados had at least two hits as CTX avenged last season's loss to the Kingsmen in the NCAA West Regional Championship game.
Carson Cox led the way with four hits including a bases-clearing three-run triple as the Tornados batted around in the seventh to take the lead for good.
After allowing six runs in the first two innings of the game, the Tornados shut down CLU, allowing no hits in the final five innings and striking out a combined six Kingsmen.
Caleb Nicholson relieved starter
Calvin Bush in the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings to earn his third win of the year.
Concordia Texas will close out their three-game road trip at the Cactus Classic with a matchup against the Redlands on Sunday, at 11 a.m. CST from the Kino Sport Complex.
