AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team surrender five runs in the first inning and were unable to complete the comeback, losing to Schreiner 10-6 in the finale of the Concordia Classic on Sunday.
Ryan Capel was unable to induce an out in the first inning as the Mountaineers tagged him for five runs before he was relieved by
Cole Angelle.
Schreiner would add to their lead with runs in the third, fourth and fifth inning and led 10-0 going into the bottom half of the sixth.
The Tornados would begin to put together hits, scoring three runs, including an RBI single by
Caleb Maddox.
Trailing 10-4 in their final at-bat, CTX would make it a four-run deficit on a
Reed Carlton RBI single up the middle. Carlton finished the game going 3-5 from the plate and driving in three.
With two runners in scoring position, Maddox would ground out to second to end the game as the Tornados dropped their second straight game.
Concordia Texas will next travel to Tuscon, Ariz., to play in the Cactus Classic on Feb. 8-11. They will face Chapman on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by matchups with reigning national champion Cal Lutheran on Saturday and University of the Redlands on Sunday.
