Tornados' rally comes up short

TUSCON, Ariz. – Bret Leiferman had three hits and an RBI but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas baseball team lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to Chapman on a walk-off hit on Thursday.

Matthew Williams pitched six innings, allowing only two runs, one earned and struck out four Panthers, but ended with a no decision for the second straight start.

The Tornados, trailing 2-0 heading into the eighth inning, would cut the deficit in half on an RBI single by Cole Angelle after Michael Evan and Caleb Maddox led off with a walk and a single respectively.

In their final at-bat, CTX would start another rally as Tyler Page led off with a single. Clarence Guidry III would pitch run and move over on a sac bunt. Leiferman would bring him home two batters later to tie it up at 2-all.

In the bottom half of the inning, the first two Chapman hitters would reach on walks. After a sac bunt, the Panthers would win the game 3-2 with a walk-off single.

The Tornados will have an off day before facing reigning national champion Cal Lutheran on Saturday at 3 p.m. CST from the Kino Sports Complex. Concordia Texas faced the Kingsmen in the NCAA West Regional championship game last season, losing 9-7.
